What are 'wake windows'

Depending on the age of your baby, they tend to stay awake for specific ranges of time. This can vary from baby to baby though.

Wake windows tend to get longer throughout the day as well. The morning wake window may only be 2 hours up until your baby is over the age of 1. But the afternoon wake window will be much longer by this point. As a parent I found that, for my baby, if I kept them busy during their waking time with (semi) prepared activities, they seemed happier and were tired for sleep and more regular intervals.

Emma Hubbard, O.T. states average wake windows are:

0 to 4 months 45-120 minutes
4 to 6 months: 2 to 2.5 hours
6 to 9 months: 2 to 3 hours
9 to 12 months: 2 to 4 hours
12+ months: 4 to 6+ hours

How to use this website

I made this website because after having my first son, I was introduced to things I could be doing with him from day one, such as tummy time and reading. I wanted to made things more fun for both of us and experimented with new 'games'. Some days I was too tired to be imaginative so I thought to put some of the things we liked to do on a spinning wheel. Now anyone can make an account and start adding games to the wheel. I'm also a Science teacher, and one thing I hated about searching the internet for ideas was that some things are not backed by evidence and some are. Ideally, the explainations of these games will all be referenced add to the richness of this resources. I am inspired by the Wonder Weeks and wanted to build developmental stages into the explanations. The next thing I'm going to update on this website is the ability to search for games based on age, interests, developmental stage and I'll keep adding games!
